AUTISM CONSULTATION SUPPORT
Our TCEC Autism Specialists bring years of experience in supporting students and staff with autism programming. Our education consultants are available to observe students prior to evaluations, complete ASD assessments, write specific autism goals for an IEP, attend IEP meetings, provide indirect training and services for staff, and provide direct services for students.
THE BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH OUR AUTISM CONSULTANTS
Students with autism oftentimes have specific impairments in social interactions, nonverbal communication, and adapting to new experiences and changes in expectations. Our autism consultants support the team to problem solve situations based on the unique needs of the student and the school environment.
WHAT IS AUTISM ASSESSMENT?
The autism assessment is conducted to establish eligibility for special education services and gathering information to assist in planning for an individualized education program (IEP). The autism assessments focus on determining if the student demonstrates deficits in the three core areas of autism: social interaction, communication, and restricted, repetitive or stereotyped patterns of behavior or interest. These are examined through observations, interviews, screeners and standardized assessments. The behavioral symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often appear early in development. Many children show symptoms of autism by 12 months to 18 months of age or earlier. Research shows that early detection and early intervention greatly improve outcomes, so it’s important that parents and educators seek assessment as soon as possible signs become evident.
